The 2018 Ford F-150: a Natural Choice for Truck of Texas

2018 Ford Shelby Baja F-150 Raptor

Are we thrilled to announce that the 2018 Ford F-150 has been named Truck of Texas for the second consecutive year? Yep. Are we surprised? Nope. After you take its specs and features into account, you won’t be either.

The latest Ford F-150 outpaces the competition by offering:

  • Best-in-Class 13,200-Pound Maximum Towing Capacity
  • Best-in-Class 3,270-Pound Maximum Payload Capacity
  • Class-Exclusive Remote Tailgate Release
  • Class-Exclusive Integrated Tailgate Step with Lift Assist
  • Class-Exclusive Deployable Box Side Steps
  • Class-Exclusive Pro Trailer Backup Assist system

The 2018 Ford F-150: Truck of Texas of the Year

Truck of Texas is the most prestigious award presented by the Texas Auto Writers Association (TAWA). This is the second consecutive win for the 2018 Ford F-150, marking the 14th win over the award’s lifetime.

More than 70 TAWA member journalists put in over 300 hours of driving to rate an intensely competitive selection of trucks across a wide array of measures. The Ford F-150 emerged ahead. We like to think the TAWA was impressed by the Western-themed style of the King Ranch trim, and we imagine they were struck by the line’s fantastic new features, which include:

  • Standard Auto Start-Stop for all engines.
  • Up to 290 hp and 265 lb-ft of torque from a 3.3L V6 with port and direct-injection technology, and flex-fuel capability.
  • Electronic 10-speed automatic with Normal, Tow/Haul, Snow/Wet, Eco-Select and Sport selectable drive modes.

The 2018 Ford F-150 Raptor: Off-Road Pickup Truck Winner

The 2018 Ford F-150 was named TAWA’s Off-Road Pickup Truck, extending the Ford F-150’s dominance across even the most testing backcountry. It’s a model built around a philosophy of go-anywhere adventure, and it delivers:

  • Up to 450 hp and 510 lb-ft of torque from a 3.5L EcoBoost V6
  • Seamless performance through Segment-First 10-speed automatic transmission

Features include:

  • Second-Generation BFGoodrich KO2 Tires
  • Upgraded FOX Shocks
  • Torque-On-Demand transfer case
  • Increased Suspension Travel

It’s caused such a stir that Shelby even produced their own 2018 Shelby Baja F-150 Raptor.
